Just 1 mile easy walk from the lodge Wiseman Bridge is the nearest and easiest beach to get to.
It is a mixture of golden sand and stony and rocky sections. Chose the right place like Ewan here and you can spend a productive day demolishing sandcastles.
Parking on the front facing the sea is free but gets filled up quickly.
1 mile walk. Same by car.
Saundersfoot, just a couple of miles walk from the lodge, has a beautiful beach, plus a small town with shops and pubs and restaurants.
It's hard to image that 100 years ago this was the centre of a major coal mining and industrial area. The anthracite mined around here, and shipped from the harbour, was the best quality in the world and powered the worlds steam trains including the massive trains on display at the Age of Steam Roundhouse Museum in Sugarcreek Ohio USA.
Pictures include a random old couple we spotted admiring the view.
2 miles walk.
Tenby has so much sand there is more than enough for everybody.
There are 4 beaches to chose from: North, South, Harbour and Castle. Each very different in their outlook.
Tenby itself has shops and pubs and restaurants, fish and chips takeaways as well as ice cream.
7 miles by car. (or a 6 mile walk!).
Manobier. The beach is at the bottom of the hill with large car park with toilets that have hot water. As you can see the golden sand is striped with bands of stones.
There are other attractions including walking round the cliff on the Pembs Coast Path, the Castle, and the Castle Pub.

Skrinkle Haven is spelt with K not H, this can be very confusing for Google. Getting to the beautiful scenery is a left turn just before reaching Manobier. There are several parking places, Google directs to a car park just in front of the Youth Hostel. We ignored this and continued to the end.
From the aerial photo you can see the beach is split into 2 parts by a massive vertical rock wall. The beautiful sandy beach is only reachable at low tide, or by boat. The 136 steps lead you down to the Church Doors Cove end of the beach (see photos). Some people put walking through or swimming through this door on their bucket list. I wouldn't like to underestimate this achievement but presume Everest and Machu Picchu are higher up.
The 136 steps, down and up, were not quite as painful as expected but the rocks and stones to walk on a the bottom were very difficult. Higher up walking the Pembrokeshire Coastal Path is recommended. Bring you're walking boots or sandals, no place for fashion footwear.
Skrinkle Haven 11 miles.
By contrast to Barafundle this sweeping beach has a large car park and an ice cream van in the summer. There are fascinating stones and shells for collectors. It is backed by sand dunes and sheltered by the headland of Trewent Point, an interesting rock formation where you are likely to spot John Whittaker or other ex-Manchester geographers pondering while rubbing their chins.
Annoyingly the car park uses an app but the phone signal is almost non existent. However the ice cream van man was very helpful, he took contactless and gave pound coins for change. There is also public toilet should you get caught short.
Photo was taken on a cold winter day but there are a lot walkers and dog walkers still about.
