Watch out everywhere is 20 mph – don’t get me started.
(We spotted the man to blame - former Welsh First Minister, Mark Drakeford, when walking into Saundersfoot, apparently, he owns a lodge in Amroth).
Pitstops at the M4 services literally are the pits, so these don’t tend to delay us long.
Laura and I are two of a select number with a free pass to stop-off at the exclusive Brislington Services in Bristol.
We frequent the Magor Services at Junction 23A which is the first exit on Wales side of the bridge and exactly halfway. It is a Costa, tick.
Services at J36 about 2/3rds of the way are quite nice with downside it’s a Starbucks.
By train only ever done this once and was unforgettably enjoyable.
The nearest station to the lodge is Kilgetty (sounds Irish but isn’t). Station is about 1½ miles walk from the lodge.
Although there are direct trains from Reading to Carmarthen most of the time you have to change at Swansea where you then get on a small train to Pembroke Dock.
The views along the Towy estuary and Carmarthen Bay are stunning. One of the stations is Ferryside which has a ferry across to Llansteffan - must go on this one day.
I would try to persuade someone to pick you up from Kilgetty. The walk it is mostly downhill which is the only positive point, unfortunately a lot of the route is along busy roads without footpaths.
The 351 shuttles between Tenby and Pendine. It allegedly stops outside the Methodist Church (you can see the building across the valley from the lodge).
There is no physical bus stop so not sure what you do. Seen the bus quite a few times near Wisemans Bridge, it appears to have a fixed speed of 50, has no indicators and the driver doesn’t stop for anyone.
Lost interest when I discovered my senior bus pass only works in England.
Open top bus between Saundersfoot and Tenby. Looks great fun.
Saundersfoot it leaves from outside from the Arcade.
Not sure if this running in 2025. Please let me know if you find out.
